Wherever you turn, everyone is talking about Coronavirus. Yet, in the midst of it all there’s something this has allowed - family time. The situation has forced even the worst of workaholics to be at home. Families who wouldn’t have had time for each other due to their busyness now find themselves at home, sharing the same space. Why don’t we make the most of this current situation to mend gaps in our relationships, reconnect and catch up on things we haven’t had time to do for a long time. Here are some tips from some families:
1. Pray together - this is not the time to fear or focus on panic buying. Rather, time to fellowship together as a family, read the Bible together and pray together knowing that you’re canopied in the secret place of the Most High God, the maker of heaven and the earth.
2. Cook and eat together - when was the last time your family was able to sit and enjoy three meals together on a weekday! Make the most of these times by taking turns cooking and enjoying the meals together.
3. Go for a walk together. There’s something about the outdoors that brings families together. Use this time to bond and get to know more about your children’s development. Football, basketball, badminton or just running around the park - you’ll certainly look back someday and thank God for the opportunity!
4. Family movie night is a good idea - how about getting Netflix up and watching a good film, with popcorn and drinks of course. You could also have games night of board games to add to the fun & bonding.
5. Slot in a date night - you don’t have to go out for a date night, you can very well plan one in the comfort of your own home. Why not spend some time in researching some good ideas online and surprise your spouse💃🏻
6. Catch up on some decluttering - for some of us who have pushed aside or postponed clearing the cupboards or decluttering, this sounds like a good way to spend your time at home.
7. Reestablish connection points and new routines - by the time you’ve done all the above for two weeks you may even think it’s a good idea to continue these new ways of living after all!
Prayer: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
